January Slow Session Tonight 1/15/20 at 7:30 p.m.

Happy New Year! Time for Tunes!

Hey everyone! New Year's resolution to get out and play Irish traditional music with friendly folks? Tonight's your night! If you're new to Irish or new to your instrument, have we got the place for you! Old Songs Irish Slow Session at the Old Songs Community Arts Center, 37 S. Main St., Voorheesville, NY tonight from 7:30-9:00 pm. $4 for heat/lights/photocopies.

Bring a recording device (or your phone) to record tunes so you can practice at home by ear. We play slowly, so while bodhrans are welcome, you may not find it fun to play dead slow as we work on tunes. We are playing in Irish style, which is generally in unison. People with an orchestral background can work on pulling back from their full classical training to the more vernacular Irish style - using ornaments such as rolls, cuts, bowed triplets on fiddle, etc.

We go "round robin" and each member of the circle gets to pick an Irish tune for the group to play. Check out the link to the old lists in the sidebar for information on what we have played in the past. This is a repertoire building and slow practice session, great for beginners and intermediates.

Hope to see you tonight!
